From Kindergarten through grade 12, the following standards guide our practice:
The Early Childhood follows Creative Curriculum for PS-PK and a combination of Literacy by Design, Singapore Math and Foss in K-1. Teachers provide instruction through a range of strategies that reflect best practice. The curriculum for Early Childhood Education is guided by a play based philosophy and offers:
– an opportunity for children to “learn how to learn” through discovery and hands-on learning activities that stimulate their curiosity and creativity
– an English Immersion Program
– interaction with other children through cooperative learning activities and with social skill awareness
– curriculum activities that foster a positive self- image in each child and facilitates intellectual, social, emotional & physical development
– Spanish, technology, physical education, library, music and art
The Elementary School curriculum is standards based. Teachers provide instruction through a range of strategies that reflect best practice. A comprehensive curriculum focused on strong foundational skills in language arts (the integration of reading, writing, speaking and listening), math, social studies and science provides the core of the curriculum.
The curriculum for Elementary School is designed to:
– help children achieve basic literacy in English and Spanish
– allow students to understand basic mathematical concepts as well as foundations in Science and Social Studies
– teach Technology, Art, Music and Physical Education
– offer an extensive program of after school activities, enrichment and remediation
The Middle School curriculum is standards based. Language arts (the integration of reading, writing, speaking and listening), math, social studies and science provides the core of the curriculum. Classes are also offered in Spanish language, technology, physical education, music and art.
Middle school is guided by the following goals:
– mastering essential skills within an interdisciplinary context
– acquiring fundamental knowledge and the critical thinking skills necessary for interpretation and application
– developing and maintaining a positive self-image
– managing increased social, personal and academic responsibilities
– exploring a diversity of curricular and extracurricular activities
– developing an increased awareness of individual differences and respect for others
The curriculum for High School follows a rigorous university preparation program, which meets the graduation requirements for both the United States and Guatemala. Upon graduation, our students receive the High School Diploma, accredited by AdvancEd and the Bachillerato en Ciencias y Letras Diploma accredited by the Ministry of Education in Guatemala.
– Our four-year curriculum meets or exceeds the entrance requirements of all major colleges and universities
– Seniors are required to complete a major research project for the Guatemalan Ministry of Education, Seminario
– In addition to our already-robust curriculum, we offer AP classes in Geography, World History
– Psychology, Statistics, Calculus, English Literature and Composition, Chemistry, Physics and Biology
– We are also proud to have a strong elective program with a variety of courses including SAT Preparation, Journalism, Yearbook, Science Exploration, and Robotics
